Templates
When Allen Crane first visited Howard Walton, OD, Dr. Walton
told him about templates developed by the Winter
Haven, FL Lions Club.
The template shown below is smaller than full size. Students begin using the template by looping
around the circle in a counter clockwise direction for 10 times. Then the student is asked to pick up the
template and trace the marked circle 10 more times with a different colored
pen. Note: What appears to a circular cut out is
actually a hole in a plastic sheet. The
template also has a square hole, a triangular hole, a rectangular hole and a
diamond shaped hole. By using the templates students develop fine
motor skills. First graders who use the
template also write much better.
